Rob Pincus spoke with NPR’s Here & Now on August 23rd to speak about why it is important to American Gun Owners that the National Rifle Association begin earnest reforms and get out from under the current cloud of scandal surrounding Wayne LaPierre and the Board of Directors.
You will notice in the five goals of Save the Second there is no mention of Wayne LaPierre anywhere. The reason that Save the Second has no mention of Wayne LaPierre is that we believe that the problems in our NRA are not solved by the removal or addition of any single person.
NRA President Carolyn Meadows and other NRA Board of Directors are saying that everything is alright, or as the Wizard said to Dorothy, “pay no attention to that man behind the curtain”.
The revelations confirm the rumors. Issues with retirement plans (except for Wayne’s, as he’s taken Millions of Dollars out early), loans to “The NRA” from its affiliated entities (all while the apologist are still asking for people to fund those supposedly separate entities), and spending that far outpaced actual revenue have all been widely reported from internal sources openly and in whispers for a long time.
More and more members of the gun community media with well established credentials are asking the hard questions and reporting the uncomfortable truths lately. We know that there are still people worried about retribution, bullying or intimidation being done by the Old Guard and their cronies… trust us: they don’t have that kind of power.
Many people have said that things will “get worse before they get better” in regard to the Crisis inside the NRA. We feel Strongly that the only way to get to the “better” part is by speaking openly and directly about the worst parts of the crisis. Without acknowledging the very real problems, we will not be able to advance the solutions to reform the NRA.
Adam Kraut has released a letter explaining why he is not taking the opportunity to sit on the NRA Board of Directors.
I don’t blame AdamKraut for not taking the seat. The NRA is not going to get fixed from the inside. That has become clear. The question now is Who will change it from the outside?
But there is also another growing demographic in both the Board and among NRA Members: the “sheep in sheepdog clothing”.
David Dell’Aquila, who has been motivating other high net worth donors to the NRA to stop providing funds to the organization has sent a very direct letter to the NRA Board of Directors.
Save the Second was formed to represent the voice of former, current and potential future NRA Members who are concerned about the problems currently facing the organization. We believe these problems were caused by its leadership and a failure of the Board of Directors to properly oversee the organization. Save The Second is in the final week of a Petition Campaign to require Mandatory Attendance for Directors at Board Meetings.
